Sky is one of those girls who wins your heart the moment you look at her. She is three years old, but her eyes, smile and gentle nature say far more than her age ever could.
Behind it all lies a story that made us, as an organization, change some of our boundaries forever.
Sky was found as a puppy by a girl who asked us only to post her on our pages. Wanting to help, we shared her adoption appeal, believing that the person asking for help wanted to responsibly find her a home and continue caring about her fate.
We had no idea that the real goal was simply to give the puppy away to anyone as quickly as possible.
And so Sky ended up in the wrong hands.
When the people who took her realized they could no longer care for her, they first tried to contact the girl who had given Sky to them. She clearly told them that she no longer had anything to do with the dog and was not interested. They then remembered seeing Sky’s adoption appeal on our pages and contacted us.
Only then did we learn about the conditions in which Sky had been living.
She had been kept on a chain behind the house, without adequate care, proper walks or the life a dog deserves.
We took her into our care without hesitation.
From that moment on, Sky became a dog under Ventura’s protection.
Sky has become a painfully important example for us of why sharing adoption appeals for animals that are not under an organization’s direct responsibility must have very clear boundaries.
Because an animal is not a post, a moment of attention or a passing feeling of compassion. An animal is a responsibility that continues long after the photograph, the post and the adoption.
And despite everything she has been through, Sky has remained incredibly kind.
She does not have a trace of aggression. She is a gentle, noble and very sensitive girl. At first, she may be a little reserved around strangers, but as soon as she senses safety and kindness, she slowly opens up, approaches, seeks affection and closeness.
She simply needs a little time to understand that she is safe.
She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, loves children and enjoys being around people. She does not get along particularly well with cats, which is why we are looking for a home without cats.
Sky weighs approximately 14 kilograms and is ideally suited to family life. She loves running, spending time outdoors and daily activities, so her ideal home would be a house with a securely fenced yard, with full access to the house and life alongside her family.
For Sky, a yard is not a place of isolation, but a space for play, freedom and enjoying life with the people she loves.
She has received all necessary veterinary care, is vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and regularly protected against internal and external parasites, as well as heartworm.
Today, Sky is looking for the home she deserves.
She is looking for safety, belonging and people who will never let her down again.
