Bleki is a terrier whose eyes sparkle with happiness when he feels safe.
His story shows just how loyal and devoted dogs can be to someone who offers them even a little warmth, attention and love.
For months, he wandered through the winter, sleeping on snow, ice and concrete, surviving on scraps of bread and spending most of his days at a construction site. There, he had someone who looked after him: an elderly night watchman who was the only person to care for him, allowing him into his guard hut during cold nights so he could warm up a little.
Then, one day, the elderly man suddenly stopped coming. We later learned that he had passed away from complications caused by coronavirus.
Bleki continued to wait for him.
When we learned about his story, it was November and the days were growing colder and colder. Bleki was seen curled up on the concrete outside the guard hut, while the new watchman chased him away, poured water on him and tried to catch him with a chain so he could take him away and abandon him somewhere.
We could not leave him there.
We will never forget the day we took him into our care. He fell asleep beside the fireplace like a child who had been frozen by the cold and needed nothing more than a little warmth and peace. He slept for hours.
Over time, he relaxed, regained his confidence, his terrier spirit and the smile you can see in his photographs. He lives in a house, but prefers the yard. He loves running freely around the space and playing with toys, as though making up for all the joys he had missed out on before.
We would prefer his adopters to be familiar with the terrier temperament and to understand a dog who is loyal, intelligent, independent and strongly attached to his person.
Bleki is now around seven to eight years old and has been under our protection for five years. He weighs approximately 12 kilograms and is medium-sized.
He has received all necessary veterinary care and is ready for adoption. He is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and regularly protected against internal and external parasites, as well as heartworm.
Bleki is looking for what he has waited for the longest: his own person, safety, belonging and a home where he will finally be someone’s beloved companion.
