Lena is a dog whose smile wins over everyone she meets today, but behind that smile lies a story we will never forget.
She was once a beloved dog with an owner. Adopted from the street as a puppy, she grew up with her owner, cherished, cared for and accustomed to living in a home. And then her owner passed away.
While people came and went through the apartment, making plans and discussing the sale of the property, Lena was left completely alone.
The only change planned for her was the street.
When the apartment was sold, she ended up outside the entrance to the building where she had lived until then. Confused, sad and inconsolable, she spent her days curled up in front of the door, waiting for someone who would never return.
The residents occasionally fed her, and then we learned about her story and took her into Ventura’s care.
Since then, Lena has been waiting for her people.
Honestly, we still do not understand why she has been waiting for so long.
Lena is six years old, looks like a miniature Labrador with short, adorable little legs, and weighs approximately 14 kilograms. She has received all necessary veterinary care, is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and regularly protected against internal and external parasites, as well as heartworm.
She adores people. Children especially.
She is calm, stable, affectionate and incredibly gentle with children. She enjoys human company, going for walks, car rides and all the little things that make up family life.
Lena is a dog who wants to be part of her people’s everyday lives.
She gets along well with other dogs, is accustomed to living indoors, is house-trained, is very intelligent and adapts quickly to new surroundings and routines.
However, we are looking for responsible people for Lena who will respect what is important for her safety.
We previously had an adoption attempt after which we brought her back into the organization’s care because the agreement that she must not be let off leash was not respected.
Lena is a dog who loves to explore and can follow her curiosity, which is why it is not safe for her to be off leash in an unsecured area or near traffic.
That is why we are looking for a home that understands that responsibility and safety must come before a dog’s momentary desire for freedom.
Ideally, Lena would have a secure yard where she could spend time and enjoy herself, but she must also live indoors with her family. She is not a dog for isolation, a kennel or a life separated from people.
However, we are looking for responsible people for Lena who will respect what is important for her safety.

If there is something beyond this earthly life, and if Lena’s former owner can see her somewhere today, we believe she is at peace knowing that Lena is loved, protected and that we care for her with all our hearts.
But we also believe that what would mean the most to her is for Lena to finally find her own people, her permanent home and a life in which she will belong to someone again.
Because Lena deserves to be loved for the rest of her life.
