ADOPTION PROCEDURE

1. Initial Application Steps

The adoption application introduces prospective adopters to our Adoption Procedure and guides them through joining our Animal Lovers Club, allowing them to proceed to the next stages of the application process.

After completing the one-time enrollment in the Club, applicants receive confirmation of membership and an adoption questionnaire, which allows them to continue the application process.

2. Questionnaire, Interview, and Meeting

Once we have received and carefully reviewed the completed questionnaire, applicants who meet the basic requirements proceed to a telephone interview with Ventura. The interview allows us to discuss their questionnaire responses in greater detail, ask additional questions, answer any questions they may have, and assess their motivation, readiness, and capacity to provide appropriate care for the animal.

If we determine that the animal’s needs and the prospective home are a good match, we arrange a meeting with the animal and, if necessary, request additional information.

3. Trial Home

If the meeting is successful, the animal is placed in a trial home for a minimum of 30 days. Ventura brings the animal to the prospective home so that we can verify the living conditions. Upon arrival, a trial-home agreement is signed, setting out the adopter’s rights and obligations.

During the trial period, the rules and obligations set out in the trial-home agreement apply. Some of the most important are:

  • * The animal remains microchipped and registered to the organization. The adopter is not entitled to transfer ownership or change the microchip registration details.
  • * The adopter must remain in regular contact with Ventura, provide updates about the animal, and consult us on important matters concerning its welfare.
  • * Dogs must not be walked off-leash or left unsupervised in an unfenced area. During walks, they must wear a safe and appropriate harness.
  • * Cats are adopted exclusively into controlled and secure living conditions, without unrestricted access outdoors.
  • * The adopter must follow the agreed guidelines concerning feeding, adjustment, safety and everyday care.
  • * Ventura may conduct home visits during the trial period, subject to prior notice.

If the rules are not followed, the animal is placed at risk, or the agreed guidelines are disregarded, Ventura reserves the right to return the animal to its care.

4. Permanent Adoption

Following a successful trial period and our assessment that the animal has found a suitable home, the permanent adoption agreement is signed and notarized.

Only a notarized permanent adoption agreement provides the legal basis for the transfer of ownership; the trial-home agreement does not confer that right.

The agreement sets out obligations that remain in force throughout the animal’s lifetime. Ventura announces that an animal has been adopted only after the agreement has been notarized.

5. After Adoption

We remain in contact with adopters, who send us photographs, videos, and updates about the lives of the animals they have adopted. We are always available to offer advice, assistance, and support.

Our adopters are our greatest allies. To date, Ventura has rescued more than 900 animals from the streets of Serbia and found carefully selected, permanent homes for them. We proudly follow their stories and cherish every new moment their adopters share with us, watching animals once in our care enjoy life with their families.

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

The same basic procedure applies to adopters living abroad. The application, Club membership, questionnaire, and interviews are mandatory, while parts of the meeting and the assessment of living conditions may be conducted via video calls and additional communication.

Adopters are required to collect the animal in person, provide the address where they will be staying in Belgrade during the final stage of the procedure, and sign the agreement before a notary together with our team.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Ventura reserves the right to discontinue the adoption process at any stage or return the animal to its care if the agreed conditions, the agreement, or the rules of the procedure are not respected, or if the conditions fail to ensure the animal’s safety, meet its needs, and protect its welfare. We make every decision carefully and in the animal’s best interests.

Before continuing the application process, applicants are required to read the Privacy Policy and General Terms and Conditions of the Ventura Association. Politiku privatnosti i Opšte uslove poslovanja Udruženja Ventura.
