We pulled four puppies from a cold concrete pipe, freezing, hungry and completely unprotected. Their rescue marked the beginning of a months-long journey of treatment, growing up and finding safety. Today, each of them has a family who loves them as one of their own.

Two years ago, we rescued four puppies from a cold concrete pipe. Three white puppies and one black.

They were tiny, freezing, covered in fleas and ticks, and abandoned in a place that gave them little chance of survival. That day marked not only their rescue, but the beginning of a months-long effort to help them grow up healthy, safe and loved enough to one day truly belong in someone’s home.

Immediately after their rescue came veterinary examinations, treatments, parasite protection, vaccinations and daily care to ensure that each of them could grow up healthy and safe.

Stories like these unfold over months and involve far more than the moment of rescue itself.

We paid particular attention to their protection until they had received all three vaccinations, in the correct order and at the appropriate intervals, and until they were safe enough to run, play and gradually grow into dogs ready for their families.

Once they had completed their vaccination course, they were given their names. The male was named Arnold, the two white females became Bjanka and Stela, and the little black female was named Rubi.

As they grew, one by one, they began leaving for their families.

Bjanka became Nika.

Today, she lives surrounded by the love and attention of her family. From a tiny puppy in a concrete pipe, she became a gentle companion to her family during her adopter’s pregnancy, and later a caring and devoted companion to the baby who is now growing up alongside her. She spends much of the year with her family in Herceg Novi, enjoying walks by the sea and a life that was once unimaginable for her.

Stela became Ajsi.

With her adopter, she grew into a beautiful, stable and happy dog who now enjoys a safe home, her favorite places to rest and the company of the cats with whom she shares her everyday life. From a tiny, freezing puppy in a concrete pipe, she has grown into a secure and happy dog with her own peace, familiar routines and people who have loved and cared for her as she grew up.

Arnold is now called Jimy.

He lives with his family in Austria, surrounded by nature, long walks, travels and the care of people who have welcomed him as an equal member of the family. When he visits Serbia, he is reunited with his friend Rea, who looked after him while he was a puppy in foster care, waiting for his home. It is one of the details that gives this story its special warmth, showing that the bonds formed during rescue often remain alive long after adoption.

Rubi remained Rubi.

She waited the longest for her home, but in the end, she found a family full of love, exactly the kind of home we had patiently hoped for. Today, she loves long walks along the Sava Quay, enjoys her own rhythm, her people and the security she has finally found. Her family often tells us that passersby still recognize her and ask whether she is Rubi from Ventura. Her story has remained in the memories of many, and her life today shows that waiting for the right home was worth it.

For all four puppies, we provided complete veterinary care, vaccinations, parasite protection, microchipping, as well as spaying or neutering, in agreement with their adopters and in accordance with the standards our organization has upheld from the very beginning.

Two years ago, four freezing puppies looked out at the world from a cold concrete pipe, with no safety and no one to call their own. Today, one of them is growing up alongside a baby, one shares a home with a cat, one runs through the parks of Austria, and one walks along the quay of her city, where people still recognize her from the story we shared together.

That is why Ventura exists.

Not simply so that animals survive, but so that one day they have their own people, their own beds, their own routines, their own walks and lives in which they are loved as members of the family.

We were the bridge between abandonment and belonging. Thanks to the people who opened their homes to them, these four puppies now live the lives they deserved from the very beginning.
