Ventura Udomi

From a Dying, Nearly Blind Kitten to a Life of Safety

Majki was rescued as a nearly blind kitten from a house where a large number of animals were living in severe neglect. Today, under Ventura’s care, he lives a peaceful, safe and loved life.

When we found him in 2018, he weighed only around 200 grams.

He was tiny, weak and in an extremely serious condition. His body was exhausted, his eyes severely damaged, and he looked like a kitten who might stop breathing at any moment.

And that is precisely why we took him into our arms first, despite everything suggesting that his chances were very small.

At that moment, there was no question of whether he would one day find a home. First, we had to fight for him to survive.

For months, we fought to stabilize his condition. Feeding him every few hours, treatments, antibiotics, cleaning his eyes, veterinary check-ups and uncertainty became part of the daily life of a tiny kitten who had yet to be given a real chance at life.

In addition to everything else, Majki had a serious fungal skin infection that required prolonged treatment. At one point, the infection spread to us and to other animals in our care, making the entire recovery period even more demanding.

But step by step, we managed to overcome it all.

Once his condition was stable enough for further specialist examinations, he underwent detailed ophthalmological assessments. His eyes had been severely damaged from the very beginning, and we learned that he was completely blind in one eye, while in the other he had only a few percent of vision, allowing him to perceive little more than shadows.

From then until today, Majki has received artificial tears twice a day, along with regular eye cleaning due to blocked tear ducts and discharge.

Just when it finally seemed that the most difficult part was behind us, a new battle began in 2020.

He developed serious bladder problems and urinary stones, which required a urethrostomy. Once again, there was recovery, treatment, check-ups, careful monitoring and the need to adapt everyday life to the needs of an exceptionally sensitive animal.

Since then, Majki has eaten exclusively a special veterinary urinary diet and remains under constant supervision and care.

But what makes Majki’s story so special is not only what he has survived, but the way he lives today despite everything he has been through.

Majki now lives in the home of Ventura’s founder, who cares for him every day and knows his needs better than anyone. He has memorized the entire living space, moves around with complete confidence, climbs to the top of the cat tree, plays with other cats, sleeps alongside the dogs and takes part in the family’s everyday life.

During her pregnancy, he was the devoted guardian of her growing belly, and after the baby arrived, he became one of her gentlest companions. From her earliest days, he has been part of her childhood, surrounded by animals, empathy and trust.

He is so resourceful, lively and full of life that people who do not know his story often do not even notice that Majki has a severe visual impairment.

When we look at Majki today, climbing to the top of his cat tree, sleeping beside other cats and dogs, resting peacefully near the baby and moving confidently through the space he has learned by heart, we can clearly see that we were not fighting merely for his survival. We were fighting for him to one day have peace, safety and a life worthy of a loved being.

Everything that has happened between 2018 and today — every examination, treatment, infection, operation, sleepless night and every decision to keep going — finds its meaning when we see the cat who once fit in the palm of a hand, with almost no chance of survival, now living as a cherished member of a home.

Although he does not see the world as other cats do, Majki knows what safety feels like. He knows the touch of a hand that comforts him, the warmth of a home, the familiarity of a routine, peace and a life in which he no longer has to fight simply to survive.

And that is why we are endlessly proud of his story.

Some stories do not end with a traditional adoption, but that does not mean they have not found a happy continuation.

Majki may not yet have found his permanent home, but under Ventura’s care, he lives a life filled with care, routine, safety and love. Despite every challenge he has faced, he has received what he needed most: a life in which he is loved, protected and safe.

Every contribution to Majki’s care helps ensure that he continues to receive the veterinary diet, treatment, check-ups and security he deserves.
